Desire's Game
It has been a very long time since I’ve attempted to create for a space that exists outside the pages of my notebook, yet here I find myself. I suppose the call to write hasn’t gone completely unheard, even as it has grown harder to answer.
I’m trying to return to what I once enjoyed, to something that once came easily to me. I hope this won’t be as much of a struggle as I anticipate, but I’m prepared to struggle through it if it is.
Desire’s Game
I’d dreamed of confronting desire face to face.
Oftentimes, confrontation leads to uncomfortable spaces,
yet this one felt familiar.
Desire in this space stood as a pillar,
finally separated from me.
And in that confrontation,
I was surprised to find how similar
Desire and I had become.
Both looking to please.
Both looking to be pleased.
I was afraid to admit
that Desire’s claim
that we were one and the same
felt legitimate.
Had I truly become Desire?
Or had it swallowed me whole?
Now I stand staring,
afraid, and unsure of who has taken control.
